You will need to fill out some paperwork before your first visit.
You can either download the Patient Forms in advance, fill them out and bring them with you to your first appointment, or you can arrive 20 minutes early and fill out the forms in the waiting room.
What should I wear?
Wear loose comfortable clothing which can be pushed up above the elbows and knees. Most often patients receive treatment while wearing their own clothes. Occasionally if your own clothing cannot easily be moved out of the way than you will be asked to put on a gown like shirt and very loose pants which the clinic supplies.
Should I eat before my appointment?
It is important to have eaten a little something within a few hours before your treatment, but try to avoid a heavy meal right before treatment.
How long are appointments?
Your first appointment will be approximately 90 minutes. Subsequent appointments will range from 60-75 minutes.
What to expect?
Your first appointment will include an in depth interview. I will ask questions about your specific health concerns as well as general questions which will help me understand your overall constitution.
Physical assessment may include taking the pulse, looking at the tongue, feeling the abdomen, and feeling the acupuncture channels along your arms and lower legs. For muscular/skeletal complaints I make ask you to perform a series of range of motion tests.
Based on our interview and my physical assessments I will arrive at a Chinese medical diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.
I am trained in a wide variety of techniques. Each treatment is tailored to the patient’s presenting symptoms and to their unique constitution. Treatment may include any of the following:
- Tui na (Chinese Medical Massage)
- Chinese Herbs
- Dietary and Lifestyle advice
Further description of the above techniques can be found here: Chinese Medicine
