Information for First Visit

After you schedule your first appointment, 24 hours before your appointment, you will receive a reminder email from Unified Practice [this clinic's EHR platform]. In this email there will be a green button which says Manage My Appointment. Please click on that button and fill out the forms prior to your first appointment.

What to expect

Your first appointment will include an in depth interview, with questions about your specific health concerns as well as general questions which elucidate your overall constitution.  Physical assessment may include taking the pulse, looking at the tongue, and palpating the abdomen and the acupuncture channels along your arms and lower legs. For muscular/skeletal complaints you may be asked you to perform a series of range of motion tests. Based on the interview and physical assessments a Chinese medical diagnosis and treatment plan will be determined.  Kathryn is trained in a wide variety of techniques. Each treatment is tailored to the patient’s presenting symptoms and  their unique constitution. Treatment may include any of the following:

  • Acupuncture
  • Tui na (Chinese Medical Massage)
  • Cupping
  • Guasha
  • Moxibustion
  • Chinese Herbs
  • Dietary and Lifestyle advice

What should I wear?

Wear loose comfortable clothing which can be pushed up above the elbows and knees.  Most often patients receive treatment while wearing their own clothes. Occasionally if your own clothing cannot easily be moved out of the way you will be asked to put on a loose shirt and pants which the clinic supplies.

Should I eat before my appointment?

It is important to have eaten a little something within a few hours before your treatment, but try to avoid a heavy meal right before a treatment.

How long are appointments?

Your first appointment will be approximately 90 minutes. Subsequent appointments will range from 60-75 minutes.
